『-略- 「アメリカン・ロックの歴史はイーグルスによって塗り替えられた」となるアルバムが、72年の[イーグルス・ファースト]だ。デビューしたてのバンドが歴史を塗り替える、アメリカのロックの歴史はそれほどまで薄っぺらなのか、とついへらず口を叩きたくなってしまうが、この矛盾こそがイーグルスの中に潜んでいる大きな鍵なのである。絵に描いたようなウェスト・コースト・サウンドを作り出す、それが振興レーベル、アライサムの命題であり、この思いを英国のプロデュ―サーグリン・ジョンズに託したのだ。カリフォルニアの青い空とは裏腹に、素材を持ちながらも無自覚であったバンドのメンバー達と、先に設計図をもっていたプロダクション側との間には、さまざまな軋轢が生まれていった。いわば人工着色の西海岸風景になるが、このヴァーチャルさがあったからこそ輪郭が明確になったのだ。ハイハットと同格に前に進み出るアコーステック・ギターのカッティング、天空まで駆け上がってゆくハイトーンのコーラスなど、ウェスト・コースト・ロックのサウンド・デザインがここで生れている。例えば同期のカントリー・ロック・バンド、後期のバーズやフライング・ブリトー・ブラザースに比べ、はるかにタイトな仕上がりになっていて、他のバンドがもっていた甘ったるい気怠さは感じられない。』

『南カリフォルニアの青春を謳歌するようでいながら、クールで覚醒した感性がみなぎる①を冒頭に、痛快なカントリー・ロック・サウンドが流れ出す。時代の先端を行く音ではなく、スター・プレイヤーがいたわけではないが、聴き手の耳を瞬時にとらえたのは、簡潔なバンド・スタイルがもたらす生き生きとした清々しさだったと今にして思う。72年6月にリリース。イーグルスのデビューは、ある種のファンにとってはドリーム・バンドの登場のように見えた。その年の春、ロンドンのオリンピック・スタジオで録音。グリン・ジョンズが小細工なしの的確なプロデュースを行い、カントリー・ロックあり、ロックンロールあり、レイドバックしたアコースティック・ナンバーありの多様性を、60年代末以来のカントリー・ロックの理想的な完成形という方向に収斂させた。メンバー4人が均等に個性を発揮しながら、各パートやコーラスが有機的な繋がりをみせている。①②⑨がヒット。西海岸ロックが長い胎動期を経て、いよいよ実を結び始める。』

『-略- 続く75年の[呪われた夜]は過渡期のアルバムであり、生まれ変わろうとする仕草がバンドに勢いをつける結果になっている。バンドの方向性はライヴの感触で掴み取る、ヒットは曲の良さで決まっていく。しごく単純明快なバンド理論が展開されていったわけだ。[呪われた夜]を最後に、自分の居場所を失ったバーニー・レドンはバンドを離れることになり、入れ替わるように元ジェイムス・ギャングのジョー・ウォルシュが加入する。』

『これがイーグルス?と思わせるほど妖しげな、そしてキャッチ―なロッキン・ソウル・ナンバー①で4作目(75年6月発表)は幕を開ける。ドン・フェルダーが編み出したベース・ラインと、耳を奪う完璧なギター・ソロ。そのシングル、アルバムともにNo.1を獲得し、彼らは本格的なブレイクスルー期を迎えた。アルバムはジド・エド・ノーマン(ドン・ヘンリーとともにシャイローに在籍)編曲によるオーケストラを適宜加え、ゴージャスなものとなるが、イーグルスらしいカントリー・ロック風味の③や⑥(これもビッグ・ヒット)も収める。しかし、もはやコズミック・カウボーイ然としたそれではない。享楽的なLAのライフスタイルを批評的にとらえつつ、イーグルスは新たな意匠を打ち出している。反面、バーニー・レドンの存在感は薄く、彼のインスト作品④などは宙に浮いた観がある。そんなバンドの変節のなかで、ランディ・マイズナーが屈指の名曲⑥を生んだ。アルバム中最も印象に残るのはこれかもしれない。』

イーグルスの1973年のBBCでのスタジオ・コンサートとドン・カーシューナーROCK コンサート1974年を中心に1992年のリユニオンまでのTVプログラムを含むDVD。1973年のメンバーはファースト・アルバムの4人(グレン・フライ、ドン・ヘンリー、ランディ・マイズナー、バーニー・リードン)。2曲目の「WICHY WOMAN」でのハーモニーは見事で4人のリード・ヴォーカルを有するイーグルスの真骨頂が発揮されたステージです。1974年のステージは4人に加えリード・ギターにドン・フェルダーが加入し音圧が増したパフォーマンス。リンダ・ロンシュタッドやジャクソン・ブラウンが参加した古き良き時代のイーグルス・ファミリー集結の記録です。大輪となって「ホテル・カリフォルニア」をヒットさせる前のハーモニーを売りにしていたこのコンサートを見ると、日本ではフォークソング・ブームの中多くのミュージシャンに支持されていた理由がわかります。確かかぐや姫が深夜放送でよくイーグルスの話をしていましたね。10年以上前にヤフオクで購入品です。

We will be exhibiting the 1st and 4th CDs of the Eagles, who were at the center of American rock in the 70's, and a DVD containing concerts in 1973/1974. The CD was made into a CD immediately after the record era, and the commentary is written by Mr. Eiji Ogura and Mr. Masakazu Kitanaka. It is not a rental omission.

"-omitted- The album that 'The history of American rock was rewritten by the Eagles' is [Eagles First] in 1972. It's tempting to criticize how thin American rock history is when a newly debuted band rewrites history, but this contradiction is the key to the Eagles. Creating a picture-perfect West Coast sound is the proposition of the promotion label Alysom, and entrusted this idea to British producer Glynn Johns. Contrary to the blue sky of California, various conflicts were born between the band members who had the material but were unaware of it, and the production side who had the blueprints in advance. A DVD containing the Eagles' 1973 BBC studio concert and Don Kirschner ROCK concert in 1974, and TV programs up to the 1992 reunion. The members in 1973 are the four members of the first album (Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Randy Meisner, Bernie Leadon). The harmonies in the second song "WICHY WOMAN" are wonderful, and the stage shows the true value of the Eagles, who have four lead vocals. The 1974 stage was a performance in which the sound pressure increased with the addition of Don Felder to the lead guitar in addition to the four people. A record of the good old Eagles family gathering with Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne.
